Out of Sight = Out of Habit (Fix It)

Don’t let good habits fade—try these simple, visible reminders.

Bottom Line Up Front

It’s easy to lose track of new habits when life is busy. Out of sight often means out of mind. This week, I’m sharing a simple way I’ve found to keep habits front and center so they actually stick.

Why Visibility Matters

I used to think that reminders on my phone or keeping things “in my head” would be enough. But the truth is, when something isn’t visible, it fades fast.

That’s why I turned to physical reminders. They don’t disappear into an app or get lost in a sea of notifications. They’re right there in front of me, cutting through the noise.

Simple Setups That Work

Here are some physical reminders I use and recommend:

  • Whiteboard for weekly goals – Place it where you’ll see it often. Mine hangs behind my desk so my top priorities stay in sight.

  • Index card or sticky note for daily habits – Write 1–3 small actions (like “walk the dog” or “read 1 chapter”) and stick it where you always start your day.

  • Bulletin board for projects – Pin big ongoing projects so you have a clear snapshot of what’s active. Review it weekly to avoid clutter.

  • Door or fridge spots – If you don’t have a natural place to put reminders, use a high-traffic area you can’t ignore.

Pair each reminder with a habit you already do. That way, your morning coffee or walking out the door becomes the trigger.
