Bottom Line Up Front

Let me ask you a question.

Are you a gambler?

It turns out, I was - at least in one particular way.

I wasn’t even thinking about backing up my data once upon a time.

Thankfully, I’ve mended my ways and have plans in place to avoid disaster should the worst occur - how about you?

Notion? Yes, But Everything Else Too!

I recently shared a video about backing up data from Notion:

The thing is, it’s not confined to Notion.

Whatever tools you use, and especially your note taking, journaling, researching, platforms, should be backed up.

Why?

Well, let’s take the worst case scenario - that app shuts down tomorrow.

What would that look like for you?

A minor pain?

A complete disaster?

Once you’re aware of what the pain might be - and if you’re using it for your work or business, it might be worse than you think - it’s time to put an action plan together.

Putting Your Action Plan Together

The good news is that backing up your data doesn’t have to be a herculean effort.

Here’s the rough steps, no matter the platform:

  1. Determine the time interval between backups. How long between backups would be a minor inconvenience? How long would be a big problem? Pick a time range closer to the minor inconvenience range.

  2. Find out how to backup your data if you don’t already know how. What format is it in? Do you have somewhere to store it (local? DropBox? Google Drive?)

  3. Set a recurring reminder for your chosen time range in your task manager of choice (Todoist, ClickUp, etc)
