This E-ink Tablet Is Actually Sticking

What replaced my Kindle and Note Air 2 Plus.

Bottom Line Up Front

I’ve been testing out a smaller, Android-based e-ink device, and it’s changed how I read, take notes, and stay focused. In this issue, I’ll share how it fits into my routine, what it replaced, and why it might be worth trying—especially if you're juggling reading, notes, and productivity apps across devices.

Why I Switched Devices

I’ve used Kindles, big-screen e-ink tablets (Boox Note Air 2 Plus), and even tried going fully analog. But most of those didn’t stick.

My Kindle felt too locked down. My larger e-ink tablet was just bulky—I liked it, but I didn’t carry it. Over time, it ended up on a shelf. I still wanted the clarity of e-ink but in a format that made sense for everyday use.

What I landed on is a 7-inch color e-ink device that runs Android - it’s the Boox Go Color 7 Gen 2 (quite the mouthful). It turns out, that mix of portability and flexibility hit the right balance for me. This isn’t about tech specs—it’s about what fits into a daily routine and helps you actually use the tools you like.

How I Actually Use It

Here’s how this device fits into my day.

First, I read on it nearly every morning. Books, saved articles, even graphic novels—all from one place. Because it runs Android, I can use Readwise and Reader right on the device—two of my most-used apps.

Second, I can capture quick notes while reading—without switching to a different notebook or device. If something pops up that I want to remember or act on, I just jot it down, send it to Roam or ClickUp, and get back to reading.

Third, I don’t have to carry my phone when I’m using it. That’s a big win. I still have access to a browser if needed, plus email and Notion for reference, but I’m not getting bombarded with messages or distractions.

Is it perfect? No. There are quirks—especially if you like to tweak settings. But once I set it up, it felt like part of my workflow and I’ve been going strong with it for a month and it looks like a keeper. If you’re not into tweaking things and getting it set up the way you want or diving into some user guides, this might not be the device for you.
